Between a Rock and a Hard Place
Yep! Those are rocks. I've been looking at lots of rocks lately trying to make this huge, permanent, for the rest of my life decision: What kind of rock is going on the wall?????
So, here is the wall in its present state: Not exactly as I had imagined it, but this project has played out the same way all the rest of the job has gone this summer. I think that I have communicated clearly to the contractor the desired end result; I leave town for a week (or more); I come home to find things not quite the way I thought they would be. It's not too bad on this end; it's higher than I expected in the middle . . . .
But this is NOT at all what I had in mind! The wall just drops abruptly at the end, and there is a hill behind it that I won't be able to mow. Sheesh!!! Steep banks and hillsides are what I have been trying to eliminate.
On the brighter side, the back yard and the race track have made the journey from Mars back to green earth!

Can You Feel the Heat?
Great Day in the Morning, it was hot!!
Here's some more images from Parris Island, which must be at the gates of Hell! I'm sure these recruits would agree.
This is the face that inspired terror in the hearts of Platoon 1057. (I think he looks like he just wants to go home and eat some of his mamma's fried chicken.)

Update on the Landscape
"The Webmaster"
It's about time for an update from the Martian landscape. Here is the state of affairs just before we left for vacation:
As you can see, the footers for the new wall are in the ground. The work has received a detailed inspection by the kitty patrol . . .
The backyard and racetrack have been raked smooth and seeded with hopes of a return trip back from the red planet to green Earth.
Amber made the trip from up north to the beach by Amtrak and arrived at this charming and beautifully restored station in Hamlet NC:
On a final note, here is the most incredibly brave little five year old guy: His mom and dad brought him over a couple nights ago to get his head sewed up. He sat in his mother's lap stock-still, and never even made a peep throughout the whole procedure. He was wearing Spiderman pj's, but if you ask me, his courage out-shines Spidey any day!

"Sail Away" puzzle compliments of the lovely, talented Amy Renzulli. I was so on vacation during McPherson beach week that I hardly lifted a camera.
What a lot of living has taken place since I fell off the blogging wagon a couple of weeks ago! Besides beach week, I've been to Jason's graduation from Parris Island and Steve and Sara's lovely wedding in boiling hot Tennessee.
Here are the McPhersons, growing soft in their old age. It was too hot to go outside for the family portrait!
OK. So I did take a couple of pictures one day when the sky was interesting:
And Amy got the sea oats which were especially beautiful this year:
And here is the newly minted Marine:
We are all bursting with pride!
Finally, a teensy-weensy preview of the sweet wedding:
