Partying Down at the Pond

Hay Ride Jigsaw PuzzleHay Ride Jigsaw Puzzle

Well, even with all the excitement of Melissa getting sick at the party Friday night, I managed to get a fairly respectable number of images. And here they are: Slideshow
I am happy to report that Melissa is doing well after her terrifying trip to the ER.

Camp McPherson is winding up this week in a blaze of glory. We will be swimming, sliding, paddle-boating, kayaking, and putt-putting (did I forget anything?) on Tuesday at R and J Ranch, spending Wednesday evening and Thursday in Charlotte, NC (the Queen City fit for a princess) celebrating Corey's Sweet 16th Birthday at Carowinds (It's supposed to be 102: Yikes!!!), then we leave on Friday for their return home. I will be in Virginia Beach on Saturday photographing a party for my sister.

Roses are Red

Roses Jigsaw PuzzleRoses Jigsaw Puzzle

There's not been anything exciting in the landscape around the ancestral mansion lately, except this rose bush that was planted 2 years ago. It was frozen to within a milimeter of its death last April (all the leaves and buds turned black and fell off!) but it came back like a phoenix in June.

One of Life's Curve Balls

Tonight I was planning to put up some pictures from the Special Olympics team picnic at Brittany's grandpa's new park. I know I got some great shots of the fishing, games, and hayride, but I haven't even downloaded the cards yet. Instead, I spent a frightful evening on an ambulance ride to the ER (from WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY out in the sticks!) with Agape's new friend, Melissa, whom she met at camp this summer. While on the hayride. Melissa told me she didn't feel well, then she said, "I feel like I'm going to have a seizure", and then she did! Thankfully, she improved after we arrived in the ER, her mother found a ride to the hospital, Barbara gave me a ride home, and Toni and Arlie drove my van full of kids home for me. And a huge thanks and loud cheers for our coach, Vickey, who is so level-headed and compassionate, and the kids who were on the ride with us for staying so calm and respectful.

My Eventful Day Review

gate Jigsaw Puzzlegate Jigsaw Puzzle
Here is a scene from bygone days at the Whalehead Club in Corolla that has nothing at all to do with the events of my day.

We finally had a day sunny enough to make it worth the trip up to Claytor Lake, and worthy it was! A rough and tumble game of "King of the Tube" too close to the rocky shore resulted in Corey having to be stitched back together. And, WOW! did her bravery impress me! She didn't flinch or squall; unlike the baby Corey I remember being so tender and sensitive to the slightest little bump.

My friend, Karen, came by yesterday, and dropped off pictures of pitiful kids who want to be foreign exchange students in the US. Arrangements for them to be placed in homes in Northern Virginia fell through because the school system wouldn't accept them, so they are urgently seeking "adoption" before school starts next week. 2 phone calls later, and now we will be having a cute young fella from Switzerland moving in next week!

Here is a little story from the "Who'd a thunk it?" department. My daughter, Amy, has been having some serious pain in her heel off and on for the last couple of years, but more so here lately. This past weekend, The story of her dad's and Uncle's Vitamin B-12 deficiency came up in a conversation regarding one of her friends , but Amy decided to try some suppliments herself. Miraculously, after only two days, her heel pain has almost completely vanished!!

Last, but most certainly not least, I want to share some words of wisdom from Paula, a faithful visitor of Under the C., from Fredricksburg, VA. Her sage advice is buried in the comments of yesterday's Chicos story, but it was so inspirational that I wanted everyone to be sure to read it.
