Blue Mountains

Blue Mountains Jigsaw PuzzleBlue Mountains Jigsaw Puzzle

Today I got to be the Minister of Fun AND a "Trail Angel." Briana, Dylan, and I delivered a food drop to friends who are backpacking on the AT (Appalachian Trail) this week. In turn, they invited us to share their dinner of Hobo packs with them. Before dinner, we enjoyed hiking two more trails at Grayson Highlands: the Twin Pinnacle Trail which leads to the highest points in the park (and a breathtaking 360 degree view encompassing the peaks that we hiked last week) and the Big Wilson Creek Trail where I managed to drop my camera battery in the creek and took an icy, bone-throbbing plunge to recover it.

Have you ever heard of "Letterboxing?" Briana and Dylan have turned me on to this hobby which is an intriguing pastime combining navigational skills and rubber stamp artistry in a charming treasure hunt style outdoor quest. There are 2 letterboxes located in Grayson Highlands and today we found the "Between the Pinnacles" box. We picked up a "Hitch-hiker" from the box and have decided that we want to send it on its way in a new box that we are going to place. We will have to create a unique stamp for the box, first.

Here is the view looking north from the Big Pinnacle:
So that's why they call them the Blue Ridge Mountains!

Who can explain how this tree can be growing on top of a boulder?
